Artist review: Acid Claw

Acid Claw, our friends from across the pond, call Reading, UK their home. Just about an hour west of London, Reading holds a neighborhood where a melding of minds came together to form a band with a unique view of musical expression. What an expressive mind it is, combining Ska with Punk, Metal, and you name it, Acid Claw brings a new flavor to the show. Listening to their repertoire conjures up images of a haunted circus or carnival. Their debut release Horror Comic sure lives up to its name. This is, without a doubt, a band to follow music lovers. This may very well be the start of a new sub-genre, Horror-Metal.

Song review: Acid Claw โ€“ Sleepwalker

This song, from our friends across the pond, is the opening track off their debut album Horror Comic. Let me say this song gets you right out of the gate. A unique spin on the punk/ska movement. They really have a sound all their own though. Musically, they weave punk and ska with dark imagery to create a sound reminiscent of a demented Carnival/Circus. The pumping rhythm reminds me of The Ramones and Sex Pistols while the feel of the song, brings to mind Black Sabbath‘s “War Pigs”, then out of nowhere your hit with a Sax over the head drawing on the ska stylings of the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, which gives it that haunted Carnival feel. Overall, this band has really created a sound all their own. Cheers mates.

This song kicks off with an ethereal intro which calls to mind Ozzy Osbourne‘s “Mr. Crowley”. The rhythm is then kicked up a notch as the ska influence is introduced, though it still holds on to the theme of a Haunted Carnival. You can almost smell the cotton candy, while the Zombie Clown Attendants lead you to the Torture Whirl and the other demented rides in this Horror Comic Universe. Acid Claw really knows how to paint a morbid scene. Lyrically, the story depicts an insane โ€œFrankenstein typeโ€ figure in Dr. West. Iโ€™m telling you, this psycho thriller is a story Iโ€™d like to hear more of, wouldnโ€™t you? I think the next album should be a concept album with Dr. West as its main character.
